Overview & How It Works

• Team Setup: Matches are played with 2 or 3 players per team (6 boules per team).
• Match Format: Standard pétanque rules. First team to 13 points wins the match.
• Play as Often as You Like: You can challenge and play other teams as many times as you wish during the season.

“Pétanque Fridays” | Save the Dates!

Join us from 18:30 onwards on the following dates:

• July 24
• August 14
• August 28
• September 11

Pétanque Fridays are free for everyone! Bring your own food and drinks, enjoy the evening, and socialize. These nights are the perfect time to bring along newcomers who want to have a go. Spread the word! No experience or equipment is required. Our local “professionals” will be on hand to offer coaching.

Entry & The Hub Access

• Entry Fee: £5 for new members (non-SAVERs). Note: SAVE has contributed £75 from surplus funds to support “The Hub,” so this entry fee balances community support. Fees are held in a dedicated Revolut account (managed by Nigel Woodward) for ongoing maintenance and costs.
• What You Get On Entry:
  1. Access to the “Steeplepetanque” WhatsApp group.
  2. The key code to The Hub, so you can play whenever you like!

League Scoring System

Points are awarded per match as follows:

• Win: 3 points
• Loss: 1 point
• Bonus Point (“The Thrashing”): Win by 7 or more points (e.g., 13–6 or better) to earn 1 bonus point (4 points total).

Example: Team A defeats Team B 13–8 > Team A receives 3 points; Team B receives 1 point.

Post match results openly on the WhatsApp group. Scores will be regularly updated on this website.

Scheduling & Pitch Equipment

• Pitch Capacity: The St Mary’s pitch features 3 lanes, which easily accommodates informal drop-in games without pre-booking.
• Reserving Lanes: If you are organizing a larger group session and require exclusive use of the pitch, please notify everyone via the WhatsApp group in advance.
• Equipment Provided: Inside The Hub container, you’ll find 4 sets of boules, home rings, lane marker ropes, and poles for standard 6m and 10m distances. (Check the wooden sleepers for marks and bolts to attach the ropes for 3 narrow lanes, 2 wide lanes, or one open pitch).

Tournament Timeline & Festival

• Playing Window: Open now through mid-September 2026.
• End-of-Season Festival: Planned for mid-September 2026 (exact date TBD), featuring prizes funded by entry fees and event surpluses!
